Research Informatics
The IDSC Research Informatics team is dedicated to the application of information principles and techniques on natural history information for improved data management, digitization, presentation, discovery, exploration, analysis, and independent research.
We use scientific research of the natural world to organize knowledge about individual biological organisms, human interactions, planetary systems, and the ecological systems they form. We intend to bring the tools and services of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) and Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) into greater use and integration with NMNH collections and research data. The overall goal of IDSC Research Informatics is to deliver an increasingly interconnected digital resource for the broader natural science community.
In addition to EOL and ITIS – the following collaborative efforts are part of the Research Informatics portfolio: Catalogue of Life (COL), Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG), and Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio).
