Genomics
The IDSC Genomics team is focused on strategies to build capacity and enhance support for NMNH genomic scientists and opportunities for leadership in genomic education. IDSC Genomics aims to provide direct support for research, as well as new and revitalized activities to build community and collaborative potential in this field. IDSC Genomics will work to establish a centralized genomics infrastructure to aid in research, facilitate community connection working toward a unifying culture shift in collaboration with the IDSC Community of Practice and will be supported by the Genomics Lead, Dr. Vanessa González. Included in this effort is the Smithsonian Institution Barcode Network (SIBN).
Genomics is one of the foundational toolkits of modern-day natural history science. NMNH researchers use genomics to explore the biodiversity of our ecosystems, track the health of populations under threats, and study evolution in the human–environment ecosystem. The aim of the IDSC Genomics team is to implement a strategic vision for genomics at the museum, guided by stakeholder recommendations and the museum community.
