Digitization
Digitization provides the “upstream” content that allows for much of the informatics research and science within the natural science community. By digitizing our collections, we provide digital access of our specimens to the global community, through our own data catalog and through data aggregates such as GBIF and iDigBio.
IDSC strengthens digitization at NMNH by
- providing a Digitization Coordinator for leadership, connections, and knowledge base regarding digitization in the museum setting
- coordinating projects within the museum to maximize efficiency and usage of resources
- connecting resources and staff to assist digitization efforts
- measuring impact of digitized collections
- representing NMNH as a global digitization leader in natural history collections.
