SIMS reference materials for measuring water in mantle minerals
This page provides instructions for requesting reference pyroxenes with known water content described in Kumamoto et al. (2017). These pyroxenes can be used by research facilities to calibrate standard mounts for measuring water in upper mantle minerals.

Requesting materials and creating a standard mount
The principal investigator in charge of a research facility should send a request, on letterhead, to either Dr. Elizabeth Cottrell or Leslie Hale, for materials for a standard mount based on the lists of reference materials below. After the chips/grains have been received, the facility can fabricate its mount. When the new mount is ready to be calibrated, the facility can send a second request for the reference mount, which will be sent from the museum via FedEx. After the new mount is calibrated, the reference mount must be returned to the museum via FedEx. The facility keeps the newly calibrated mount as a part of their permanent standard suite.
