Lianas of the Neotropics is a course that provides a general introduction to the climbing plant families and genera in the Neotropics. The course provides general characteristics present in many climbing plants such as their unique vascular system with remarkable wood anatomies, climbing mechanisms, and other traits associated with the climbing habit. Their diversity, geography, and distribution within the plant kingdom are also highlighted. The most diverse families are described, and examples of common genera are presented by highlighting the important characters for their recognition.
