Lene is a US-Norway Fulbright postdoctoral research fellow. Her research focuses on Mesozoic marine reptiles, with an emphasis on ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs from the Late Jurassic Arctic archipelago of Spitsbergen. Lene is interested in evolution, marine reptiles, histology and biodiversity, and sees outreach as an important and rewarding part of being a scientist. Lene is currently working on research projects about marine reptiles in the Arctic and convergent evolution in marine vertebrates. To understand their evolution, biogeography and phylogenetic relationships, she studies skeletal morphology, taphonomy, inner bone microstructure and fossilized soft tissue. At the NMNH, she will investigate patterns of convergent evolution between marine reptiles and cetaceans. Lene is also a science writer, and author of the popular book "Brennmaneteffekten – Hvordan går det med den norske naturen?" which is published in Norwegian. Lene will be in Paleobiology until January 2022
