Interim Assistant Director for Information Technology
Mr. Michael Brooks serves as the Assistant Director of Information Technology and Branch Chief at the National Museum of Natural History and leads the museum's diverse IT office which provides IT support at Natural History, the Museum Support Center (MSC) and the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce r. Michael has been at the museum since 1999 with over 26 years of Information Technology experience. Beyond these roles, Michael works with other Smithsonian IT leadership and the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), consulting with them on best practices and solutions to enhance Smithsonian's goal of the increase and diffusion of knowledge. In the private industry, Michael consulted with several law firms, hospitals, and other large businesses on how to best implement technical solutions that would enhance their productivity, increase business opportunities and increase revenue. Michael received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine and Fisheries Management and minor in Aquaculture from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, better known as Virginia Tech (VT).
