Mausami Kothari has over 23 years of experience in government financial and grants management. She has served in numerous capacities as a subject matter expert in the areas of grants management, internal controls, grant reporting, and business process redesign. Prior to joining NMNH, Mausami served as a Director of Payment Management Services (PMS) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), overseeing the Payment Management System, which disburses over $800 billion in federal funds to grant recipients each year. Much of her work was focused on modernizing the Payment Management System, including the elimination of numerous legacy screens and automating functionality for payment processing. Mausami was actively involved in supporting the Grant Closeout Initiative at HHS and implementation of the automated Federal Financial Report (FFR) for grants.
Prior to serving as a Director of PMS, she has also served as Grants Management Officer for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), overseeing various programs in the Division of Mandatory Grants, and served as an Administrative Officer for the government of the District of Columbia. She has received numerous awards for her work in grants management, most recently was a recipient of the 2024 HHS Secretary’s Award for Meritorious Service for her contribution on Federal Grant Closeout and previously was awarded for the 2022 HHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Excellence Award, and the 2016-2017 HHS Departmental Award for Excellence in Management.
