Assistant Director for Communications

Jim Wood is responsible for overseeing communications operations at the National Museum of Natural History including public affairs, science communications, crisis communications, filming requests, social media, branding, marketing, internal communications, government relations, international relations, and the Ocean Portal website. Previously, Jim had served as senior advisor to the Sant Director and was responsible for staffing the Museum Board, overseeing internal and external partnerships, and internal communications. He joined the Museum staff in 2014 from the Smithsonian’s Office of Government Relations and had previously spent 14 years on Capitol Hill serving on the staffs of House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and United States Senator Paul S. Sarbanes. Jim is a graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland
