This tourmaline was acquired for the National Gem Collection in 1989, from the original deposit at the Batalha Mine in Paraiba, Brazil. This rare gem exhibits an intense blue color and is most likely natural without any heat treatment. This was the first Paraiba tourmaline accessioned into the National Gem Collection.
