Goldman's Pocket Gopher has been found burrowing in deep sandy or loamy soil, sometimes near corn or bean fields. Like other pocket gophers, it undoubtedly feasts on crops when it can and is considered a pest by farmers. It lives in arid or semi-arid habitat in Mexico's high central plateau, in places that get enough rain to support shrubs and grasses, and probably uses these grasses and other plant matter for food and to make its underground nests. Goldman's is among the smaller and least well-known members of the genus Cratogeomys. Its upperparts are yellowish or dark reddish brown; its underparts are whitish or cream-colored.
