The Kimberley Diamond was found at the historic Kimberley Mine in South Africa c1940. The rough diamond weighed 490 carats and was acquired by Baumgold Brothers, Inc., an American diamond importing and cutting company. It was faceted to a 55.08 carat elongated emerald cut gem and mounted in a platinum necklace accented with 80 baguette cut diamonds. The diamond was exhibited extensively around the US in the 1960s, including appearances in several popular TV shows.The diamond was graded VS-1 in clarity and natural fancy yellow in color by the GIA.
