Azurite | NMNH 177311 | Mexico, Sonora |
Gift of Smithsonian Gem and Mineral Collectors in 2019.
The Milpillas mines in Sonora Mexico have produced some of the most spectacular azurite specimens ever found, rivaling those from such classic localities as Bisbee, AZ and Tsumeb, Namibia. Notable for their well-formed crystals and electric blue color, they are prized by collectors and museums. This azurite specimen has beautiful intense blue crystals and is the finest and largest specimen from this locality in Mexico in the National Mineral Collection.
