The Winston Adamantine Pearl pendant is set in platinum and highlighted by a spiderweb of 52 baguette and round brilliant cut diamonds. Adamantine Pearls are actually not pearls, but black diamonds. The diamond rough, which is approximately three to four times the size of the finished gem, is cut in a spherical shape and then polished to create a gem that bears an uncanny resemblance to a Tahitian pearl. The Adamantine Pearl weighs 44 carats and has the beauty of a pearl and the unique properties of a diamond. Adamantine is the word often used to describe the brilliant and remarkable luster of a diamond. This pendant was donated in 1997 during the dedication of the Harry Winston Gallery, one of eight exhibit areas in the renovated Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems and Minerals, continuing the Winston legacy of supporting the National Gem Collection.
