This close-up image of a rock's interior provides a window into the history of Mars. Collected in Antarctica in 2003, this rock was ejected from Mars by a meteorite impact and eventually fell to Earth. Crystallized from molten magma, it samples a 1.3 billion years old Martian lava flow. Scientists at the National Museum of Natural History combine the study of these rocks with their work on unmanned missions to Mars to understand the history of the Red Planet.
