Azurite (blue) and malachite (green) are hydrated copper carbonates and mined as ores of copper, frequently found together. Because of their brilliant colors, they are used as pigments and ornamental stones. Azurite is typically massive to nodular in nature but can also form as stalactites and small dark blue tabular or prismatic crystals. Its intense azure blue color makes it a popular stone for collectors.
