Archived Webinar

The Zoom webinar with Paleontologist and Curator of Dinosauria Matthew Carrano aired June 18, 2020, as part of the Smithsonian Science How series. Watch a recording in the player above.

Description

Join Matthew Carrano, paleontologist and Curator of Dinosauria, to explore the Smithsonian's dinosaurs! Matt introduces viewers to the concept of "renovating dinosaurs," the process of updating how dinosaur skeletons are displayed based on new scientific findings and discoveries. Using examples from the newly opened David H. Koch Hall of Fossils - Deep Time, Matt shares how the skeletons of Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, and other dinosaurs were updated — and leads us on a deeper dive into what he's learning about Ceratosaurus, which is now fully prepared after more than 100 years.
