My research focuses on molecular and computational techniques for analyzing genetic data from ancient and historic sources. I have experience analyzing ancient microbiomes to evaluate microbial ecology and evolution within the context of dietary practice. I'm interested in the intersection between humans, animals, and our environment, and how we can observe this connectivity through microbiomes.
Here at the museum, I study bison genetics using historic museum specimens. I'm collecting DNA from bison in the collection to understand how the near-extinction event in the late 19th century affected genetic diversity in living bison populations.
