Elizabeth grew up on the shores of the Indian River Lagoon and began her career in benthic ecology early, by exploring the sand bars at low tide. The declining health of the IRL, observed in real time from her back yard, was a catalyst for her education and career in marine science. Along the way, Elizabeth also developed a passion for the weird and wonderful world of marine invertebrates. She joined the Smithsonian Marine Station in 2024 as a research technician in the Benthic Ecology Lab. Her work focuses on monitoring benthic invertebrate biodiversity in the Indian River Lagoon, which is an indicator of and contributor to ecosystem health.
