Kelsey first joined the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) as an intern with the Department of Anthropology in summer of 2010. Since then, Kelsey worked on a wide variety of projects at NMNH that provided her with a range of collections management skills. While working with the Program in Human Ecology and Archaeobiology, Kelsey cataloged, organized, packed, and shipped approximately 7,000 archaeological objects from the Channel Islands. She also carried out half of a detailed and comprehensive inventory of the Paleoindian/Paleoecology Program research collections.
In 2012, Kelsey joined the collections management team in the Office of Education and Outreach (E&O), which was tasked with rehousing and digitizing 6,000 specimens from the education collection for use in Q?rius, the NMNH's interactive science education space. From 2012 until May 2016, Kelsey worked with the E&O collections; such work included specimen cataloging, labeling, imaging, rehousing, and repairs; data imports to EMu; cleaning up records in EMu, including catalog, taxonomy, collection events, parties, narratives, multimedia records; integrated pest management and pest remediation; and exhibit cleaning.
Kelsey's time in the E&O collections provided her with a strong foundation working with specimens and objects spanning a multitude of materials and preparations. Kelsey looks forward to continuing her career with the NMNH.
