| Veracruz Shrews have a fairly large distribution, from Coahuila to Chiapas, Mexico, and at elevations all the way from 1,600 to 3,650 m or more. They apparently are at home in both coniferous and broadleaf forests and can also make use of disturbed areas. They probably feel safest from owls where there are shrubs and other vegetation to provide cover. They are usually found near water.
Shrews are fast runners and often make little twittering noises as they forage.
