Malachite (Siproeta stelenes)

Malachite on flower buds Family: Nymphalidae (brush-footed butterflies).
Geographic Distribution: North, Central and South America. Southern Florida and southern Texas, Mexico, Central America and Brazil.
Wingspan: 81-99 mm.
Larval host plants: Cafetin (Blechum brownei) and Ruellia (Ruellia spp.)
Habitats: Weedy areas near forests or trees.
Identification: This butterfly is unusual for the green color on the underside of its wings.
