Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis)

Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) by John Scarlett

Alor, Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
by John Scarlett, Austin, Texas, USA

Cuttlefish are actually mollusks, not “fish” as their name implies. Although color blind,
their highly developed eyes can see polarized light, greatly enhancing contrast.
Concentrations of sensor cells on the retina of their eyes allow them to look forward
and backward simultaneously.
