DEDICATED IN MEMORY

of the accomplished nature photographer and devoted conservation advocate Windland Smith Rice (left), this awards program is proud to recognize and celebrate the talent and achievements of photographers at all levels of experience and all nationalities.

Building upon Windland's legacy of engaging and inspiring the public through the art of photography, this annual Awards competition has uncovered a vast community of outdoor enthusiasts armed with cameras and other mobile devices. These professionals and amateurs alike deliver not only a vivid and up-to-date record of the wild, but they also bring exciting personal adventures from the field for all to enjoy.

As we congratulate the award-winners featured in this exhibition for their remarkable accomplishments, we invite you to share your own images of nature. Maybe your favorite shot will make the journey from the wild to the walls of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. Your photographs and your stories can make a difference in how we view nature and our place in it.
