The age-old cults of Cyprus continued to flourish, for the island's Ptolemaic rulers respected local religious practices. Aphrodite and Apollo remained the two most prominent divinities, whose sanctuaries and shrines were filled with pilgrims. At the same time, new gods, such as Isis, were introduced from Egypt.
